About the book
What is the book about?
High Five Your Spirit Guides is a spiritual guidebook that introduces readers to their spirit guides, without delving into religion. It includes techniques and exercises to help people become open to the guidance and connectedness of having a positive, helpful presence already in their lives. By listening to their intuition, trusting nudges, and recognizing signs readers can work with their spirit guides to live a more fulfilling life.
When did you start writing the book?
I started writing the book in November of 2025.
How long did it take you to write it?
The book took about a month to write with the help of my spirit guides and downloads from the Universe.
Where did you get the idea from?
The idea of writing about spirit guides and the role they play in my life came to me over the course of about two years. Through signs and other communications from my spirit guides, I realized I needed to write a spiritual guidebook to help others connect. The most pivotal moment was when a psychic in Sedona told me I was going to write a spiritual book.
Were there any parts of the book where you struggled?
Self-doubt was where I struggled. I discuss that in the book and how I often questioned if I was qualified to write a book about spirit guides.
What came easily?
The writing itself was very easy. With the help of my spirit guides, I was able to write about a chapter a day. The tone of the book is very relaxed and relatable, almost conversational, which made it easy too.
Are your characters entirely fictitious or have you borrowed from real world people you know?
The book is nonfiction.
We all know how important it is for writers to read. Are there any particular authors that have influenced how you write and, if so, how have they influenced you?
I have a goal of reading at least a little from a spiritual book every day so a lot of authors have influenced my thinking and writing. If I had to pick a couple, I’ve found Deepak Chopra and Gabriel Bernstein to be very inspirational and impactful. I also read other nonfiction, and I think the conversational writing style I use is like Mel Robbins’ and Jen Sincero’s.
Do you have a target reader?
My book is aimed at readers who feel alone and question whether there is more to the universe than meets the eye. People who are starting to recognize that the nudges they feel and the repeated signs they see have meaning. I want anyone who needs to feel the connection and comfort that their spirit guides can bring to read the book.
About Writing
Do you have a writing process? If so can you please describe it?
Yes. My process includes setting a specific time each day to write. Because of the spiritual nature of the books I am writing, I also meditate first, make sure I have charged crystals in place, and light an orange candle for creativity.
Do you outline? If so, do you do so extensively or just chapter headings and a couple of sentences?
Yes, I do use a loose outline to capture my initial thoughts but it is really just chapter headings and a few notes.
Do you edit as you go or wait until you’ve finished?
I do not edit as I go. My style is more of a free writing experience.
Did you hire a professional editor?
Yes, I hired a professional editor and two proofreaders.
Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what gets the fingers tapping?
No
About Publishing
Did you submit your work to Agents?
No
What made you decide to go Indie, whether self-publishing or with an indie publisher? Was it a particular event or a gradual process?
I knew I wanted to self-publish because I wanted complete control over the book’s design, editing process, and release timeline.
Did you get your book cover professionally done or did you do it yourself?
I created it myself using Canva Pro.
Do you have a marketing plan for the book or are you just winging it?
I have an extensive marketing plan that included a Kickstarter to raise funding for marketing and I am working with an experienced public relations firm.
Any advice that you would like to give to other newbies considering becoming Indie authors?
I recommend doing a lot of research on self-publishing and making sure they understand what it entails. Although there is a lot of freedom in publishing the book yourself, it is also a lot of work, from finding editors to marketing the book and more.
About You
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest.
Where do you live now?
I currently live in Oregon about an hour from where I was born. Although I have traveled all over the world, I find myself happiest here.
What would you like readers to know about you?
I want readers to know that although the book High Five Your Spirit Guides is very spiritual and I have become more spiritual over the last couple of years, I still have doubts from time to time. I am in a lifelong process of learning and growing on my spiritual path and I don’t have all the answers.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a second spiritual book, Your Life’s Blueprint: Know Your True Purpose. I’m still in the outlining phase while I gather all my thoughts, confer with my spirit guides, and organize how I want the book to flow. I plan to begin writing the book within the next few weeks.
