IndieView with Amaya Ash, author of Hiss

Although I admire many writers, I don’t think I’ve been influenced by anyone, simply because I believe no good comes from attempting to write like someone else—I’ll never be able to write in their style as well as they do. So I don’t try.

IndieView with Dean Wirth, author of Tales from the Deep End

I’m outside the box. I write humor, sexual situations, gay and Indigenous characters and historical stuff with not happy endings so either the world catches up or I stay indie.

IndieView with JC Norton, author of Never Scot-Free

The notion of an otherwise normal, exceptionally smart and attractive guy who kills people intrigued me. Something I’ve heard from readers is that they find themselves liking Stone (I do too) and feeling a bit guilty pulling for him.

IndieView with Trish Ahjel Roberts, author of Thinking Outside the Chrysalis

I thought, wow! The butterfly has to imagine what’s on the other side of the chrysalis, or butterfly cocoon, before it can actually break through to the other side. It really parallels the lives of people. So often we get stuck thinking the life we are living is the only life we can have. What if we were able to imagine the life of our dreams? We would first have to “think outside the chrysalis.”

IndieView with Sasha Lauren, author of The Paris Predicament

As a writer, I always borrow from my life experience! Characters are a combination of imagination, people I’ve met, and traits or habits from people I’ve met.

Reviewer IndieView with Heather Barksdale of Heather’s Bookshelf

Even if the story is good, if I can’t love (or hate) the characters, I can’t totally love the book.

BookView with J. Dallas Brooks, author of Martian Mist

Since we’ve never actually been to Mars and back, I’ve often wondered “What if something bad happened there, and that’s why it’s a dead planet?” Do we want to bring anything back to Earth from such a place?

IndieView with David V. Mammina, author of The Angels of Resistance

Inspired by the concept that our civilization could be brought to its knees by war, disease and climate change, I began to create a world where the aftermath held the plot of the Angels of Resistance.
