IndieView with Ryu Takeshi, author of Shadow Shinjuku

The basic idea came from a short story I had written a while ago, when I was still living in Tokyo. That story is about a young yakuza and his lover who carry a big burden from a tragic accident that happened in their previous lives, and they are trying to bring an end to the seemingly never-ending cycle of tragedy triggered by that accident.

IndieView with F. Kennerly Clay, author of Calling of Ancestors

It’s been a passionate mystery tour, with question after question leading to new questions and leaps of wonder, which is how the writing flows as well, I believe.

Bold and Bitter Statements: Volume 1

I imagined myself in that place to feel like how other people feel! How other people will take action in that situation!

IndieView with Diann Floyd Boehm, author of Rise!

It finally came to me when I was living overseas—listening to young people wanting their dreams to come true but not knowing how to make it happen or even if it was possible. Then it hit me to share my grandmother’s story.

BookView with Ashley Good, author of Just Add Water

After completing my last novel, which was fairly dark, I knew that I wanted to put something more optimistic into the world. Although it was a struggle at times to write something fun and light, every time I would sit down and work on Just Add Water, it would put me in a better mood!

Reviewer IndiView with Nellie Steele of Nellie’s Book Nook

There are LOTS of good stories that publishers reject (and I vehemently disagree with their rejection). They deserve a voice, and their story deserves to be heard. Honestly, I’ve read and reviewed books from indies and from trad published authors and I’m surprised at what gets accepted versus what gets rejected.

IndieView with Shirley Reva Vernick, author of Ripped Away

I consume history all the time because I love it. I’m talking books, podcasts, articles, blogs, and more. I learned about the Ripper-inspired anti-Semitism by going down one of my many rabbit holes of historical inquiry.

IndieView with Brianna da Silva, author of City of Reckoning

A major source of inspiration did come from a few of my more recent experiences in political activism, where I observed some of the disturbing effects that can come from trauma when it is not processed in a healthy way. I saw some people openly funneling their rage and trauma into their own radicalization, and I saw how that distorted their view of the world, and of their role as activists.

IndieView with Toby Deutchman, author of The Polka Dot Pants of Sir Edward McGee

I’ve always loved books with humor and books that reassured children that they should believe in themselves. Those two elements coalesced as I thought of the story.

IndieView with Catherine Gentile, author of Sunday’s Orphan

I discovered how absorbing research is for me, and how much it informed my work. I also discovered that all I needed to say was, “I’m writing a novel…” and people were more than ready to share their knowledge and experiences; all I did was show interest in their lives and they were more than happy to sit down for a long chat.
