The Back Flap

Songs I Couldn’t Sing is a collection of poems born from unfinished melodies and teenage thoughts that refused to stay silent. Honest and unfiltered, these poems capture the beauty and ache of growing up, the confusion, the longing, the heartbreaks, and the hope that quietly lingers beneath it all. Written with vulnerability and simplicity, the book speaks to anyone who has felt too much, too soon. It is a reminder that even the words left unspoken and the songs left unsung can still find a voice on the page, echoing in the hearts of those who read them.

About the book

What is the book about?

This book is a poetry collection, its about my emotional journey and growth, It vaguely represents what I felt as a teenage girl or what I felt in the past few years of my life.

When did you start writing the book?

I started writing when I was 16 and I published or finished it when I was 18, now I am 19 if that matters.

How long did it take you to write it?

I mean it technically took me 2 years but I think, I wrote when I felt like it, I wasn’t aiming to publish a book when I started, I just wrote because I felt lighter, it was therapeutic even, so yeah 2 years.

Where did you get the idea from?

When I first started writing it was because I wanted to write songs, but I couldn’t and what I wrote turned into poems and I felt good writing them, so then I just began writing poems and later I had the opportunity to publish my poems so I did.

Were there any parts of the book where you struggled?

I guess not really, again I wrote it like I was writing in my journal, for myself. So other then maybe experience I was writing it off, I didn’t really have struggles writing the book.

Although I definitely struggled to name the poems.

What came easily?

Honesty, I think, It was easy to me to be vulnerable and emotional, which isn’t like me

Are your characters entirely fictitious or have you borrowed from real world people you know?

I mean since my book doesn’t have “characters” so I dont know, but the poems are based on real life incidents that occurred in myself, in someone else’s life, and on movie characters and scenes.

We all know how important it is for writers to read. Are there any particular authors that have influenced how you write and, if so, how have they influenced you?

I do love reading but my inspiration for this book, I think its comes from some song writers, and people, strangers, honesty random and normal everyday things.

Do you have a target reader?

Not really, I hope people of every age and place can read this book and have their perspective and opinion, understand and interpret the poems in their own way.

Do you outline? If so, do you do so extensively or just chapter headings and a couple of sentences?

These are poems, so I just give them names and try to arrange them in a order that flows.
