The Back Flap

What happens when a demon gets assigned a guardian angel’s job by mistake?

Wynn
I thought I was free.

After leaving my toxic ex-boyfriend and my old life behind, I moved to a new town, enrolled in a new school, and kept everything under wraps. No one knew where I was.

Turns out, I wasn’t as far away as I thought.

Onyx
When Wynn’s guardian angel retired, someone had to step in—but a clerical error landed me the job. A demon assigned to protect a human? That’s… new.

I’m stuck with this job until they sort it out, and honestly, I’m not sure how a demon is supposed to look after a human like Wynn.

I wonder how a guardian demon will work out for her?

About the book

What is the book about?

My Guardian Demon is a paranormal romance about a demon being assigned a guardian angel’s job by mistake.

When did you start writing the book?

I wanted to do something different after finishing writing the rockstar romance series Lovely Oblivion. I began writing My Guardian Demon after I wrote the last book in that series.

How long did it take you to write it?

About four months.

Where did you get the idea from?

The idea came to me as I scrolled through Pinterest.

Were there any parts of the book where you struggled?

The most challenging part was making the magical elements logical – but I love the freedom offered by the supernatural!

What came easily?

The friendship between Onyx and Wynn came easiest.

Are your characters entirely fictitious or have you borrowed from real world people you know?

The characters are entirely fictitious.

We all know how important it is for writers to read. Are there any particular authors that have influenced how you write and, if so, how have they influenced you?

I love a variety of indie authors, including T.M. Frazier, Teagan Hunter, Aly Stiles, and Logan Chance. They’ve all influenced me to write what feels good to me.

Do you have a target reader?

Originally, I started out writing rockstar romances. I’ve decided to transition to paranormal romance. My target reader craves stories that blur the lines between reality and the supernatural. They’re drawn to dark, mysterious worlds filled with magic, danger, and heart-pounding romance.

About Writing

Do you have a writing process? If so can you please describe it?

I’m what I refer to as a “plantser.” Like a plotter might, I write a basic outline with beginning, end, and a few scenes that I know need to happen. Then like a pantser, I let the characters run wild and write up the incident report.

Do you outline? If so, do you do so extensively or just chapter headings and a couple of sentences?

Very bare bones. I don’t even do chapter headings, just a few sentences in a minimum outline.

Do you edit as you go or wait until you’ve finished?

I usually edit as I go, but I do a big edit at the end also. It’s a never-ending job!

Did you hire a professional editor?

No. I self-edit. I worked as a writing tutor in college so I’m comfortable enough to self-edit.

Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what gets the fingers tapping?

Absolutely! I’m really into All Time Low right now.

About Publishing

Did you submit your work to Agents?

Not this one. My very first book I did but after a lot of rejections and not hearing back from people, I decided to move  forward on my own.

What made you decide to go Indie, whether self-publishing or with an indie publisher? Was it a particular event or a gradual process?

I grew frustrated with waiting for agents and publishing houses; I decided to move forward myself.

Did you get your book cover professionally done or did you do it yourself?

I did the whole series myself. I originally had a cover professionally designed, only to find out later that the designer sold the “original” (not supposed to be template) designs to two other authors. When the designer wouldn’t do anything to address it, I redid the covers myself.

Do you have a marketing plan for the book or are you just winging it?

I have a basic marketing plan. I’m still testing out what works and what doesn’t.

Any advice that you would like to give to other newbies considering becoming Indie authors?

There’s a lot more to it than writing. You also have to do marketing and presentation. Just be aware that your job doesn’t end when you finish writing the book.
