IndieView with Dreamer Thinkerman, author of Getting Out of Depression

Depression is very real. The sufferers all around the world know it very well and they are very real, including myself.

Dreamer Thinkerman – 5 February 2020

The Back Flap

I suffered from depression for many years, without finding the right resources or solution, and I was completely lost. Finally I found my own way out of this terrible illness, and in this book I share my experience, knowledge and thoughts, and how I was able to achieve this goal. I believe that we can fight depression and lead healthy, happy lives once again. To get out of depression and be healthy again was a process where I had to be patient and appreciate every little bit of effort I made instead of concentrating on the things I had not yet done. I also found many helpful ingredients that became part of this process. How did I do this? What worked for me is all in my book.

About the book

What is the book about?

It is about depression. My experience, knowledge and thoughts about this illness. My way of getting out of depression and how I am able to lead a healthy and happy life.

When did you start writing the book?

August 2015.

How long did it take you to write it?

About 2 years.

Where did you get the idea from?

It is based on my own experience, my struggles, my suffering and the idea of helping on others.

Were there any parts of the book where you struggled?

There was  not any part of the book I would have struggled with. However, this is my first book and also because it is a very sensitive subject I needed to think with extra care how I was writing the book.

What came easily?

Writing about the happier side of the life.

Are your characters entirely fictitious or have you borrowed from real world people you know?

Depression is very real. The sufferers all around the world know it very well and they are very real, including myself.

Do you have a target reader?

Mainly people who suffer from depression, but also people who care about them, either professionals or family members or friends and caregivers.

About Writing

Do you have a writing process? If so can you please describe it?

I would just type whatever was in my head at the time like a brain dump.
But then I go through on it again and again because of this fragile subject.

Do you outline? If so, do you do so extensively or just chapter headings and a couple of sentences?

Yes, I outlined first. There is a structure in the book, starting more from the sad side of subject and then gradually opening up for the solution, hope, the way out of depression and finding health and happiness.

Do you edit as you go or wait until you’ve finished?

It was edited after I finished.

Did you hire a professional editor?

Yes, I did.

Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what gets the fingers tapping?

It depends on the subject. Sometimes I like background music, sometimes energetic music while I write. However, for this book it was not my practice to listen to music while I was writing.

About Publishing

Did you submit your work to Agents?

I did not find an agent who I could have worked together so I decided that my way would be self-publishing. It would be good to have an agent but as I do not have one at the moment, I just go ahead myself because I know that many people can get good things out of the book, so I have to keep going forward. On the other hand, I am absolutely open for working with an agent.

What made you decide to go Indie, whether self-publishing or with an indie publisher? Was it a particular event or a gradual process?

I did not find other chance but to self-publish my book. It has both advantages and disadvantages. I would not mind to work with an agent or a publisher at all, but at this moment I do not have one.

Did you get your book cover professionally done or did you do it yourself?

I did the book cover myself.

Do you have a marketing plan for the book or are you just winging it?

I have plans but obviously an experienced professional could do a more effective job.

Any advice that you would like to give to other newbies considering becoming Indie authors?

Follow your dream, take it easy, think in a step-by-step process, do not look back, do not listen to negative voices that could stop you, do not worry, do not be afraid of anything, just do it…Most importantly enjoy it!

About You

Where did you grow up?

Hungary.

Where do you live now?

England.

What would you like readers to know about you?

I love the nature, the Earth, the Universe.

What are you working on now?

I have few book ideas in my head. Probably my next book will be about Happiness. Also I could write about alcoholism. Apart from the books I am working on to set up my Online Therapy Service for people who suffer from depression but also for those having alcohol related problems and those who would like lead a healthy and happy life…
